About Me

I'm Lisa Staples, a freelance proofreader and copyeditor based in Northern New South Wales, Australia.

A lifelong book lover and unapologetic fiction fangirl, I’ve spent years immersed in stories as an avid reader, reviewer, and beta reader. Attending book-signing events across Australia and overseas only deepened my passion for the publishing world and the craft of storytelling.

Wanting to turn that passion into a profession, I completed formal training in proofreading and copyediting. I now help independent authors polish their manuscripts and prepare their books for publication with confidence.

My passion lies in fiction of all genres, but I also work with non-fiction and academic writing. With a background in Health Sciences and experience in the health industry, I’m particularly comfortable editing health-related and academic content.

In addition to proofreading and copyediting, I can provide reader-focused feedback on story development, pacing, flow, and character development to help strengthen your manuscript from a reader’s perspective.

Fiction Manuscripts AUD $0.008 per word

Academic Manuscripts AUD $0.012 per word

*add $0.002 per word for more detailed editing (on prior discussion)

*add $0.003 per word for formatting

*urgent work negotiated upon request

International rates will be dependent upon the current exchange, but approximate costing is as below:

Fiction Manuscripts USD 0.006 per word / GBP 0.005 per word

Academic Manuscripts USD 0.010 per word / GBP 0.008 per word

*with the additions above at the appropriate exchange rates.
